Adviser to the Ministry of Commerce, Sk Bashir Uddin, on Sunday called on Iran to increase its investment in Bangladesh’s agricultural sector.
He made the appeal during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Mansour Chavoshi at the Secretariat, where both sides discussed strengthening bilateral ties and expanding trade and investment.
The adviser highlighted that trade between the two nations remains below its potential, despite their strong export capabilities. He stressed that boosting trade relations would be mutually beneficial and encouraged Iran to invest more in Bangladesh’s agricultural sector.
Ambassador Chavoshi reaffirmed Iran’s friendship with Bangladesh, citing cultural, religious, and linguistic ties. However, he acknowledged that commercial relations between the two countries lack a strong foundation and expressed Iran’s interest in expanding trade ties.
The meeting was also attended by Commerce Ministry Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Export Promotion Bureau Vice Chairman Md Anwar Hossain, and Iranian Embassy Secretary for Economic Affairs Mahmud Khoshravi.
