The interim government has so far recommended the withdrawal of 6,202 politically motivated cases filed with the intent to harass political leaders and activists.

"The central committee formed by the Home Ministry has reviewed 6,295 cases submitted by field-level committees for evaluation. Of these, 6,202 cases were identified as politically motivated and recommended for withdrawal," said a press statement issued by the home ministry on Sunday.

To assess the proposals received from the field-level committees, the central committee has held eight meetings, presided over by the Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser. During these meetings, proposals for the withdrawal of 6,295 cases were presented.

This initiative aims to address cases filed over the past 16 years during Awami League tenures, targeting political leaders and activists for harassment.

The interim government has established a two-tiered committee system to assess these cases. At the central level, a seven-member committee, chaired by the adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, includes the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs among its members. At the district level, four-member committees have been formed, led by district magistrates and comprising the superintendent of police and public prosecutors. These district committees are responsible for evaluating cases and forwarding their recommendations to the central committee for final consideration.

The district committees evaluate cases and forward their recommendations to the central committee for final consideration.

This collaborative effort by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs seeks to prevent the unjust harassment of innocent individuals and political activists.
