Deals signed between Bangladesh and India during the Awami League government will be reviewed, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

"Upcoming DG-level meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) would primarily focus on restoring trust between the two neighbouring nations," he said speaking at a press conference at the secretariat on Wednesday (29 January).

Key points to be discussed include the cessation of border killings, the establishment of proper construction guidelines within 150 yards of the borderline, and an agreement to prevent the publication of false news regarding Bangladesh in Indian media, he added.

In addition, issues surrounding the withdrawal of water from shared rivers and the cessation of waste management practices affecting the Feni region from India are expected to be raised by Bangladesh.

The high-level meeting, scheduled to take place from 17 to 20 February in New Delhi, will address the broader security and environmental concerns between the two countries.

Along the 4,156-kilometre-long India-Bangladesh border, India has already constructed fences along 3,271 kilometres.

Recent tensions have flared over the construction of border fencing, resulting in heightened unrest between the border forces and local communities on both sides.
