The world witnessed the dawn of a new era in sports as the first-ever Winter Olympics were inaugurated in Chamonix on 25 January 1924. Organised under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee, the event featured six sports, including skiing, ice hockey, and figure skating, attracting athletes from 16 nations.
