A Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against Shakib Al Hasan, former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team, over a cheque fraud case filed against him.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) court, presided over by Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubul Haque, issued the arrest order on Sunday (19 January).

Court issued the arrest warrant in connection with a dishonoured cheque case filed by IFIC Bank.

Alongside Shakib, warrants were also issued against two other individuals involved in the same case.

The case file reveals that on 15 December, a lawsuit was lodged against Shakib and three other defendants concerning a dishonoured cheque amounting to Tk4.14 crore. The court had directed the defendants to appear before it on 18 January.

Following their failure to comply, the court issued the arrest order.

In addition to Shakib, the warrants also name Gazi Shahagir Hossain, managing director of Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm Limited, and the company's directors, Imdadul Haque and Malaika Begum.

The court has instructed all the defendants, including Shakib, to be present in court, and the failure to adhere to this order has led to the issuance of the arrest warrants today.
