Followers of Tablighi Jamaat aligned with either Maulana Zubayer Ahmed or Maulana Muhammad Saad Kandhalvi of Delhi have been instructed to limit their activities to designated mosques at the district and upazila levels.

The directive was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 29 December.

Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the measure aims to prevent potential disputes arising from the simultaneous presence of the two factions in the same mosque.

The ministry's order emphasised that both groups should continue their Tablighi Jamaat activities within their designated mosques to ensure peace and order.

“The followers of Maulana Zubayer and Maulana Saad have been conducting their activities in specific mosques in districts and upazilas. To maintain harmony, both groups are requested to adhere to these allocations,” the instruction read.

Previously, the Ministry of Home Affairs had ordered followers of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi to refrain from all Tablighi Jamaat activities, including spending nights at the Kakrail Mosque in Dhaka.

Simultaneously, Maulana Zubayer Ahmed’s followers were advised to avoid large gatherings around the Kakrail Mosque.

These directives follow violent clashes on 17 December between the two factions over the occupation of the Bishwa Ijtema ground in Tongi, Gazipur. The incident tragically resulted in the deaths of four individuals.
