Sweltering spell spreads in parts of the country: BMD

A mild to moderate heatwave continues to sweep across parts of Bangladesh, with Rajshahi recording the highest temperature at 39°C

A mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping over Rajshahi division and the districts of Tangail, Manikganj, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Jashore and Chuadanga, and may persist in the coming days, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

In its regular weather bulletin issued this morning, the BMD reported that Rajshahi recorded the highest maximum temperature in the country on 24 April, reaching a scorching 39 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature in the capital, Dhaka, stood at 35.6 degrees Celsius.

The bulletin further forecast that during the 24-hour period commencing at 9am on 25 April rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and temporary gusty winds may occur at one or two places in Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.

Elsewhere in the country, the weather is expected to remain predominantly dry with partly cloudy skies.

Day and night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged across Bangladesh, the BMD added.
