Chief Adviser's Press Wing has issued a strong condemnation regarding the defamation of Liberation War veteran Abdul Hai Kanhu in Chauddagram, Cumilla.
In a statement released on Monday (23 December), the press wing expressed its outrage over the incident.
The statement read, "We strongly condemn the incident of defamation against Liberation War hero Abdul Hai in Chauddagram. The police and local administration have been directed to launch an investigation into the matter and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice."
Citing local police, the statement further revealed that Abdul Hai faces nine cases, including charges of murder. Authorities urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
Meanwhile, local sources disclosed that Abdul Hai Kanhu is a central committee member of the Krishak League.
Allegedly, previous disputes with local MP Mujibul Haque had led to multiple cases being filed against him.
On Sunday morning, a group of 10 to 12 individuals reportedly assaulted Kanhu, placing a garland of shoes around his neck.
The attackers, led by Abul Hashem, a local Jamaat-e-Islami supporter and expatriate, included Ahid, Russell, and Palash.
A video of the incident has gone viral, showing the assailants threatening the veteran. They declared that Kanhu would not be allowed to remain in the area or anywhere in CUmilla.
The video captures Kanhu removing the shoe garland and vowing not to return to the locality.
During the incident, the group demanded a public apology and warned him to leave the area immediately.
The attackers can be heard saying, "Will you apologise in front of the entire village?" Others are heard chanting, "Comilla out, area out, let him go."
