The Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok marked Victory Day 2024 with a series of events on Monday (16 December), celebrating the occasion with solemnity and enthusiasm at its premises.

The day began with Ambassador Faiyaz Murshid Kazi hoisting the national flag, followed by a special prayer for the martyrs of the Liberation War and the July-August 2024 mass uprising. The prayer sought peace for the departed souls, a speedy recovery for the injured, and the continued prosperity of Bangladesh. Messages from the President, Chief Adviser, and Foreign Adviser were read, highlighting the day’s significance.

The programme included a discussion on the importance of Victory Day and the 2024 mass uprising, where participants reflected on their historical and contemporary relevance. The ceremony, attended by embassy officials, expatriate Bangladeshis, and their families, emphasized unity and resilience as defining values of the nation.

As part of the celebrations, Saiful Islam, known as the "World Traveler on Foot," planted a sapling at the embassy, symbolising hope and renewal.

Earlier, on 12 December, the embassy organised a voluntary blood donation drive at the Bangkok Red Cross Society. Members of the Bangladesh Buddhist Association actively participated in the initiative.

On 15 December, a T10 cricket tournament was held at Terdthai Cricket Ground, organised by the Bangladesh Community in Thailand Cricket Club with the embassy’s support. Teams from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka participated, with Bangladesh emerging as champions. The ambassador distributed prizes among the winners and participants.

The cricket event was attended by the ambassadors of New Zealand and Sri Lanka, along with representatives from the Cricket Association of Thailand.

In his address, Ambassador Kazi extended greetings and emphasized the unifying spirit of 16 December 1971, calling for collective efforts to overcome past challenges and work towards a brighter future for Bangladesh.
