Marking Victory Day 2024, Adviser Nahid Islam reflected on Bangladesh’s liberation struggle, describing it as a unique triumph of resilience and determination that sets the nation apart in the history of decolonisation.

In a Facebook post shared on 16 December, he wrote, “Unlike India and Pakistan, Bangladesh did not emerge from a negotiated settlement; rather, it was forged through a people’s war—the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Bangladesh achieved victory over the West Pakistani Army through an armed struggle, a testament to the resilience and determination of its people.”

Adviser Nahid underscored the significance of this hard-earned victory, contrasting it with the partitions of India and Pakistan in 1947, which he noted were outcomes of negotiated power transfers with British colonial rulers.

Reflecting on contemporary developments,he remarked on the importance of the July 2024 uprising, stating that it “liberated the nation from the autocratic governance of Fascist Hasina and external dominance,” adding that this struggle had imbued Bangladesh’s independence with renewed meaning.

Nahid outlined his vision for a "New Bangladesh," committed to “upholding equality, dignity, and justice, ensuring the practice of democracy and the protection of human rights.”

Adviser Nahid also highlighted Bangladesh’s dual heritage as the inheritor of the Indo-Muslim civilization and the epicenter of Bengali culture. He expressed hope that the country would emerge as a prominent voice in the Bay of Bengal region and the Global South.

Concluding his message, Nahid called on citizens to remember the sacrifices of the founders of Bangladesh, the martyrs of 1971, and those who perished in the July Uprising, urging the nation to remain steadfast in safeguarding the ideals of liberation.
