A devastating fire broke out in Rangamati’s Happy Mor area on Sunday night (1 December), reducing five homes to ashes and causing significant property damage.
The Rangamati Fire Service, aided by the police, army, and Red Crescent, brought the flames under control after an hour-long effort.
According to eyewitness accounts, the blaze originated in the kitchen of a residence owned by Akhtar Hossain.
Assistant Director Didarul Alam of the Rangamati Fire Service said that three fire service units were dispatched to the scene immediately upon receiving the distress call.
“The fire started in the kitchen, presumably due to a gas stove, and rapidly engulfed the surrounding tin-structured houses,” said Alam.
He further revealed that six residences belonging to a single owner were affected—two occupied by the landlord himself and four rented out to tenants.
Preliminary estimates suggest losses amounting to Tk20 lakh, although a detailed investigation is underway.
