Journalist Munni Saha was released conditionally after she was taken to DB office on Minto Road in the capital on Saturday (30 November) night.
Rezaul Karim Mallick, additional commissioner (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told the media that police had not detained Munni Saha.
“Mob detained her and then handed her over to the police," he said.
She was first taken to Tejgaon Police Station and later she was taken to DB office for security reasons, he added.
“Munni Saha became unwell after having a panic. Considering her illness and a female journalist, she was released under section 497 of the Criminal Procedure Code," Mallick said.
She was later handed over to her family members on condition that she will appear in court to seek bail, he added.
