The Interim Government has established an eight-member Local Government Reform Commission led by Professor Tofayel Ahmed, with a mandate to propose necessary reforms within 90 days

The interim government has constituted an eight-member Local Government Reform Commission, headed by Professor Tofayel Ahmed, to strengthen and render local governance more effective, with its operational scope clearly defined. 

On Monday (18 November), the press wing of the chief Adviser disclosed this information.

According to the statement, the commission has been formed under the chief adviser's directives, aimed at devising necessary reform proposals to empower local government structures.

The commission’s members include Professor Dr Ferdous Arfina Osman, former Chair of the Department of Public Administration at the University of Dhaka; former Secretary AMM Nasir Uddin; Supreme Court Advocate Abdur Rahman; Dr Mahfuz Kabir, Director at BISS; Masuda Khatun Shefali, Executive Director of the Women’s Initiative Centre; Professor Dr Md Tariqul Islam of the Department of Government and Politics at Jahangirnagar University; and a student representative.

The commission has been instructed to commence its work immediately, gather opinions from all relevant stakeholders, and submit its prepared report to the chief adviser of the interim government within 90 days.
