Former Awami League lawmaker Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu from Barguna-1 has been arrested from the city's Uttara area on Monday (11 November) night.
Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Police Muhammad Talebur Rahman said police have arrested Shambhu at 9:00pm.
Several murder cases were filed against Shambhu after the fall of AL government on 5 August last in face of the student-people movement, he added.
Shambhu was produced before the court on Tuesday (12 November), and placed on 6-day remand.
He was nominated seven times from 1991 to 2023 and became Member of Parliament five times. However, he lost to an independent candidate in the 12th national elections.
