Home Affairs and Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that the country's law and order situation is improving and will return to complete normalcy soon.
He made this statement following a meeting with a delegation from Norway, led by Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh Haakon Harald Gulbrandsen, on Tuesday (5 November).
He remarked that the number of police officers absent from duty remains minimal, and recruitment across various police posts is ongoing.
To bolster the morale of law enforcement, necessary initiatives are actively in place.
Ambassador Gulbrandsen indicated Norway’s willingness to assist in reforming the police force to further enhance its efficiency.
On the agricultural front, the adviser addressed the recent severe flooding, which has significantly impacted food grain production across the country.
Due to this crop loss, certain food grains will need to be procured to stabilise supplies.
Ambassador Gulbrandsen expressed Norway’s interest in collaborating closely with the government on food security initiatives, to which the adviser extended gratitude and underscored the Agriculture Ministry's interest in furthering this cooperation.
The adviser also urged Norway to consider engaging young researchers from Bangladesh in Norway's agriculture and fisheries sectors.
Ambassador Gulbrandsen assured that he would sincerely pursue this proposal, expressing willingness to facilitate such exchanges.
Senior officials from both the Agriculture Ministry and the Norwegian Embassy were present during this meeting.
