Tabith Awal has been elected president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) in a decisive victory at the BFF elections held today at the InterContinental Dhaka hotel.
Tabith, a politician, businessman, and former two-time vice-president of BFF, secured 123 votes, significantly outpacing his opponent, sports organiser AFM Mizanur Rahman, who received only five votes.
Out of 133 delegates, 128 cast their votes, with five members absent from the Annual General Meeting and election process. In a statement following the results, BFF’s Chief Election Commissioner, Mezbah Uddin Ahmed announced, “Of the 128 votes cast, Tabith Awal received 123 votes, while Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury secured five. Tabith Awal is hereby declared president of the BFF for the 2024-2028 term."
Tabith Awal is the fourth elected president in BFF’s history, succeeding Golam Mostafa, SA Sultan, and Kazi Salahuddin. Kazi Salahuddin, who served as president since 2008, had announced in September that he would not be contesting in this election, ending his 16-year leadership tenure.
