Kazi Salahuddin, the long-serving president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), has announced that he will not be contesting in the upcoming BFF elections. The election is scheduled to take place on 26 October.
In a press conference held at the BFF House on Saturday, Salahuddin, who has served four consecutive terms as BFF president, said, "I have decided not to contest in the upcoming elections. This is my final decision."
Salahuddin has been notably absent from his office since the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August.
His decision marks the end of an era for Bangladesh football, as Salahuddin has been at the helm of the federation for over a decade.
