India will continue to work with Interim Government of Bangladesh, says MEA

India will continue to work with present Interim Government of Bangladesh for security, prosperity and development. 

Spokesperson of ministry of external affairs Randheer Jaysawal said in Thursday’s weekly briefing.  

He also said, "Our High commissioner Pranay Verma had met Chief Advisor of Bangladesh interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus and assured to continue the work for taking forward the bilateral relation keeping in mind respective national priorities.” 

Answering to another question on trade relation spokesperson spokesperson said, "Trade between two countries have resumed. Trucks loaded with necessary essential commodities are plying. But it is true that work several ongoing projects have been hampered due to law and order situation. The moment situation becomes normal we will resume like before.” 

He added that through friendship pipeline high speed diesel from Numaligarh to parbatipur is flowing since march 2023.  

"We have proposed to enhance the pipeline. The proposal is lying with the Bangladesh Government. We are waiting for their response."   

Regarding a question whether Bangladesh wants to revise the power supply agreement of Adani’s Goda project, spokesperson replied saying that "It is a private party’s project. Agreement is between seller and buyes. If they want to change to the nature of agreement it is between two parties. They can sit and discuss. We have nothing to do." 

Regarding extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spokesperson reiterated that it’s a hypothetical question. We can’t answer hypothetical question. 

Regarding her status about staying in India spokesperson said, she had come here for a short notice due to security reason. At the moment nothing can be added.  

Recently External affairs minister Dr S Jayshankar in a press conference held in Berlin said that when the question would come it will be discussed through diplomatic channel. Nothing can be commented on media reports.  

About the visit of US Assistant Secretary of state Donald lu Spokesperson said, he will attend intersession 2 plus two meeting. He said it’s about bilateral progress on engagement.
