Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) is reducing the prices of all types of internet by 10%. The decision was taken at the company's board meeting yesterday. As a result, companies will reduce their costs in both mobile internet and broadband services.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor at Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, stated that the government is actively working to make internet services more affordable for the public. "Several initiatives have been undertaken to reduce internet costs, and lowering wholesale prices is one of them. As a result, the cost of all international bandwidth at the gateway level will drop by 10%," he said.

Additionally, mobile operators are expected to benefit from DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) backbone services, which will reduce their transmission costs by 39%.

Taiyeb said, "Discussions have already been held with telecom operators regarding this initiative. It is anticipated that operators will reduce consumer-level internet prices by up to 10%."

He also revealed that Bangladesh is set to connect to the third submarine cable, SEA-ME-WE-6, by the middle of next year, further enhancing the country’s internet infrastructure.
