Star cricketer Tamim Iqbal suffered a severe health setback ahead of a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match, leading to an emergency medical evacuation.
He has since undergone an angioplasty after doctors detected a heart blockage, and his condition is now reported to be stable.
Tamim Iqbal was experiencing discomfort even before stepping onto the field for Mohammedan Sporting Club in their Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match against Shinepukur on Monday (24 March).
After winning the toss and electing to field, the Mohammedan captain was unable to take his place in the field.
Instead, he returned to the dressing room and reported his distress.
As his condition worsened, emergency medical measures were initiated.
A helicopter was brought to the BKSP ground in preparation for his transfer to Dhaka, but immediate relocation was not possible.
Eventually, Tamim was admitted to KPJ Hospital in Savar.
According to the latest reports, Tamim underwent an angiogram, which revealed a blockage in his heart.
Following this diagnosis, doctors performed a stenting procedure, and his condition has since stabilised.
Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Masud Pilot told media that Tamim has survived the health scare and is showing signs of improvement.
Earlier, DPL coordinator Sabbir Ahmed Rubel had informed the media that Tamim was initially placed on life support at the Savar hospital.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), deeply concerned over the incident, even postponed its scheduled board meeting.
For now, the cricketing fraternity breathes a sigh of relief as the veteran opener recovers from what could have been a life-threatening situation.
