Shakib Al Hasan, already barred from entering the country due to political affiliations, now faces an international bowling ban. Concerns over his participation in international cricket have escalated after this latest setback.
Revered as the poster boy of Bangladeshi cricket, Shakib has been prohibited from bowling internationally for one year after his bowling action failed a test for the second time. However, he will be allowed to continue playing as a batsman.
In a recent test conducted in Chennai, Shakib’s bowling action was found to be illegal.
According to ICC regulations, failure in two consecutive bowling tests results in a suspension from bowling in international cricket.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed in a press release that the ban, enforced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), remains effective following a reassessment at the Sri Ramachandra Sports Science Centre in Chennai last month.
Despite the international ban, Shakib can still don the red and green jersey of Bangladesh as a batsman, the BCB clarified.
The suspension will be lifted if he passes the next bowling action test.
This situation arises two decades into Shakib’s illustrious career, with his bowling action being questioned during his stint in English county cricket, marking a significant setback in his cricketing journey.
