In a bid to address the increasing wave of robberies and muggings in Dhaka, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Baharul Alam, announced a coordinated operation between the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and the Anti-Terrorism Unit.

The joint initiative, aimed at combating crime in the capital, will be launched on Monday (24 February).

The announcement came during a workshop on law enforcement and human rights, held at the Primary Training Centre in Rajshahi on Monday morning.

The workshop focused on the importance of upholding human rights and environmental considerations in light of the evolving political landscape of the country.

IGP Baharul Alam addressed the growing concerns surrounding street crime, stating, "Muggings and robberies have increased, both during the day and at night. We have decided to take special measures to counter this. The joint operation involving Dhaka Metropolitan Police, RAB, and the Anti-Terrorism Unit will commence today, and we hope to see improvements. If not, we will explore alternative strategies."

The IGP further highlighted the ongoing "Operation Devil Hunt," which had been initiated several days earlier. He clarified that this operation targets those responsible for terrorism and other anti-social activities. "Through Devil Hunt, we are capturing major criminals, including large-scale terrorists and smugglers. The operation has already yielded results, and we will continue to pursue these criminal elements relentlessly."

Addressing concerns about the political implications of these crimes, IGP Baharul Alam pointed out, "There is a group that does not want to see stability in Bangladesh. Their actions may be driven by political motives, and we remain vigilant in tackling these threats to national security."
