July Shaheed Smriti Foundation's General Secretary Sarjis Alam has said they will not disagree if the next general election is held within a logical time.

He told journalists after distributing blankets among the cold-stricken people at Maqbular Rahman Government College ground here today.

Sarjis said, “Our demand should not be limited on holding an election after such a big uprising at the cost of so much blood, lives and everything.”

“We certainly think that the elections will be held soon and the power will go to the people's representatives,” he said adding “But it is simply impossible to update the voter list and reform the judicial system within the six months.”

Sarjis said the interim government announced holding the election in mid-2026 ahead of two years of its tenure. If they think of holding election two to four months ahead, it will be logical,” he said.

“We also heard that election is possible by December 2025 or January 2026. We will not disagree if election can be arranged within a reasonable time,” he added.

Sarjis said the Election Commission, judiciary and the law enforcement agencies are needed to be reformed for holding a transparent election.

“We believe the elections that we are expecting will be possible according to the people’s hope and aspiration after the necessary reforms,” he added.

Sarjis said they would form committee in every district and upazila comprising cross section of people to prevent injustice and irregularities.

In the past 16 years, he said, Panchagarh, including the Rangpur division, has been a victim of a lot of discrimination.

“Nothing has been done here except construction of a few roads. Not a single industry has been established here. We don't need much. We will try our best to realize the rights of the people of Panchagarh.”

Panchagarh District Judge Court Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Adam Sufi, District Judge Court Government Pleader (GP) Abdul Bari, Panchagarh coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Mokaddesur Rahman San, and Chairman of Garinabari Union Parisad Monowar Hossain Dipu were present.
