Awami League faces no obstacles in participating in elections unless it is officially prohibited by the government or the judiciary, said Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.

Speaking at a discussion with election officials of the Chattogram division held at the Circuit House on Monday (30 December),  the CEC clarified the party’s eligibility for electoral contests, contingent solely upon legal or governmental action.

The CEC added, "Everyone has seen what happened in the last three elections. This time the Election Commission is working completely independently. There is no pressure from within or outside the country."

AMM Nasir Uddin said that the commission is trying its best to provide an acceptable election to everyone.

"The Election Commission is moving forward with its work as per the instructions in the constitution. The work of updating the voter list will start very soon. Action will also be taken if anyone tries to become a voter illegally."

The CEC said in the meeting that the draft voter list will be published on January 2 and the final voter list will be published in March.
