The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has banned all meetings, processions, and gatherings near the Jatiyo Party (JP) headquarters in Kakrail, Dhaka, set to take effect tomorrow (2 November).
The decision, announced through a public notice this evening, was made to ensure public order amidst rising tensions between opposing groups ahead of the party’s scheduled rally.
According to the notice, all activities in and around the JP office on Pioneer Road in Kakrail will be restricted under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance. The DMP stated that these steps aim to maintain peace and prevent any disturbances in the area.
This move comes a day after an incident where a group, reportedly aligned with “Anti-Fascist Students, Workers, and Masses,” set fire to and vandalized the JP central office. In response, JP Chairman GM Quader condemned the attack, expressing his determination to continue his protest against what he described as ongoing injustices and discrimination in the country. Quader vowed to speak out despite any risks to his life, calling for accountability and justice following the attack.
