The government has appointed retired deputy inspector general Baharul Alam as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on two-year tenure.

The government has appointed retired deputy inspector general Baharul Alam as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on two-year tenure.

Besides, the government has made former additional inspector general of police Sheikh Md Sazzad Ali as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner for two years on contract.

To this end, the Ministry of Public Administration issued two separate circulars on Wednesday (20 November).

The notices further said that the positions are subject to them breaking off any connections with other professions, businesses, or work engagements.

"This order has been issued in public interest,” read circulars, adding, “Other terms of the appointment will be fixed by the contract."
