Japan to provide US$3.24m for primary education

The government of Japan will provide a grant of US$ 3.24 million to Bangladesh for Fourth Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP-4).

The Directorate of Primary Education under the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education is implementing the programme, a PID handout said on Monday.

According to the handout, agreements in this regard were signed between Bangladesh and Japan on 19 December. 

Secretary of the Economic Relations Division Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, and Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori and Chief Representative of JICA in Dhaka Ichiguchi Tomohide inked the instruments on their respective sides.

The 'PEDP-4' programme is set to implement from July 2018 to June 2025. 

Meanwhile, Japan has provided a total of 2,000 million Japanese yen as grant assistance for the programme in the last four years.

The grant assistance for the 5th year will be used for financial and budget management and teacher training and professional development, the handout said.
