On 1 April 1948, American cosmologists Ralph Alpher, Hans Bethe, and George Gamow published a groundbreaking paper in Physical Review, outlining what would become known as the Big Bang theory.
Their work proposed that the universe began as a hot, dense state and expanded over time, explaining the origins of cosmic elements through nucleosynthesis.
Though initially met with scepticism, the theory gained widespread acceptance, revolutionising modern cosmology and shaping our understanding of the universe’s evolution.
