Two people were killed, and eight others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a covered van at Kadamtala area on the Panchdona-Ghorashal highway in Narsingdi district early Saturday.
The drivers of both vehicles died on the spot. One of them was Idris Ali, bus driver of Ena Paribahan, from Kishoreganj. The identity of the covered van driver is yet to be known.
Naibul Islam, Sub-Inspector of Ghorashal Police Station, said, "A Dhaka-bound bus of Ena Paribahan, which started from Sylhet, collided with a covered van coming from the opposite direction around 4.00 am, leaving the drivers dead and several others injured."
The injured passengers were immediately taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, the sub-inspector added.
The accident caused a long queue of traffic jam on the road until 7 am. Later, police cleared the road after reaching the spot, said Md Jasim Uddin, the investigation officer of Palash Police Station.
The body of the deceased drivers are kept at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the police added.
