Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh is expected to become a trillion-dollar economy by 2040 if an average growth rate of 5% can be maintained annually.

"Bangladesh has reached a new height of socio-economic growth, currently ranking as the 33rd largest economy in the world. The country is projected to become the 20th largest economy by 2037, said the prime minister.

She made these remarks during her speech at the signing of the 11th version of the Annual Performance Agreement (APA) on Monday.

She also congratulated 11 ministries and divisions for their contributions to the successful implementation of the 2022-2023 APA, specifically recognising the Power Division for ranking first in the comprehensive evaluation.

Additionally, she congratulated Labor and Employment Ministry Secretary Mahbub Hossain on winning the Integrity Award for FY23-24.

The Prime Minister said, “Today, Bangladesh has transitioned from a least developed country to a developing nation. The country has been recognised as a 'model of development' for its achievements in poverty reduction, women's empowerment, household electrification, and the implementation of Digital Bangladesh.”

She added, “Let us all work together to transform Bangladesh into a high-middle-income country by 2030-31 through the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and into a developed nation by 2041. Together, we can build the prosperous and advanced 'Golden Bangladesh' of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib's dream, free from hunger and poverty.”
