The coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have announced a single-point demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet members. They also demanded the formation of a new national government.
Nahid Islam, one of the key coordinators, made the announcement today (3 August) at the Central Shaheed Minar, where thousands of protesters had gathered to express solidarity with the students.
Addressing the gathered crowd, Nahid Islam said, "For the safety of people's lives and the establishment of justice in society, we have arrived at a single-point demand. The demand is the resignation of this government, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
"From the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, we will very soon announce a united front for a student-citizen uprising, involving citizens from all walks of life, student organizations, and professionals. Through discussions with everyone, we will present a national framework for the future of Bangladesh.
"Not just Sheikh Hasina, the entire government, including the cabinet, must resign. This fascist regime must be abolished. We want to build a Bangladesh and create a political system where no form of dictatorship or fascism can ever return," Nahid said.
Thousands of protesters, including students, teachers, doctors, musicians, and the general public, gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar premises, bringing out processions from various locations in Dhaka on Saturday.
The demonstration was held to protest the recent killings, injuries, and arrests of students amid the quota reform movement and to press their nine-point demands.
