The two city corporations of Dhaka are gearing up for the fastest removal of sacrificial animal waste yet, thanks to the addition of new waste disposal equipment to their fleets.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has added 32 new dump trucks and eight compactor trucks to its fleet, funded at an expense of around Tk30 crore. These new vehicles are capable of removing 350 tonnes of waste daily. DNCC has also acquired a modern mobile toilet.
Similarly, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has expanded its fleet with 25 dump trucks and 10 payloaders, with plans to purchase 15 more dump trucks.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam announced that the waste from sacrificial animals will be removed within six hours on Eid-ul-Azha. He anticipates that the new equipment will enhance the efficiency of the cleanliness efforts during Eid.
Mayor Atiqul Islam also mentioned that 10,000 city workers will be deployed to manage the waste on Eid day. Sufficient quantities of bleaching powder, Savlon, polybags, phenyl, and other necessary equipment have already been distributed among the workers.
The city corporations' proactive measures aim to ensure a cleaner and more efficient waste management process during the festive period.
