In response to security concerns, the Bandarban District Commissioner (DC) has issued directives to halt operations at five government primary schools and restrict transportation along various roads near the Ghumdhum-Tumbru border of Naikhongchhari upazila.
The decision comes amidst ongoing heavy shelling between the Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) and the Arakan Army near the Ghumdhum-Tumbru border of Naikhongchhari Upazila in Bandarban.
Local residents are gripped by panic due to the intensity of the shelling, prompting the intervention, stated Bandarban District Commissioner Shah Mujahid Uddin.
Helicopters spotted patrolling Myanmar's airspace. So, public announcements, facilitated by the Union Parishad Chairman, are urging residents to refrain from unnecessary outdoor activities, said the DC.
Residents of three villages have been advised to seek secure shelter as tensions persist in the area, added the DC.
Dozens of members of Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) have fled across the border and taken refuge in Bangladesh amid clashes between the army and the country's rebels last night.
