A total of five agreements and Memoranda of Understanding will be signed with Thailand during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to the country, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Foreign Minister Mahmud Hasan said on Monday (April 22).

Hasan Mahmud revealed this during a press conference on the Prime Minister’s five-day visit to Thailand held at the foreign ministry.

This marks the first bilateral visit of a Bangladeshi Prime Minister to Thailand since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries following Thailand's recognition of Bangladesh in 1972.

The foreign minister stated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold a meeting with her Thai counterpart Srettha Thavisin at Government House in Bangkok.

Following the meeting, one agreement on visa exemption for government visa holders, three MoUs on cooperation in the energy and tourism sectors, mutual cooperation on duty, and a letter of intent on a free trade agreement are expected to be signed.

Meanwhile, the minister informed that the MV Abdullah ship, after being freed from Somali pirates, has reached Dubai, with all sailors reported to be healthy. Twenty-three sailors have disembarked, and new sailors have boarded the ship.

He also added that the Myanmar troops who fled to Bangladesh will be sent back on Thursday (April 25).
