BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, along with senior leaders and thousands of activists, are enduring a stifling existence in jail after undergoing demonic torture at the hands of the ruling Awami League government, said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Addressing a press conference at the Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka on Saturday (13 January), Rizvi asserted that the government has imposed the highest level of oppression on BNP leaders and workers, stripping them of their fundamental rights.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and thousands of other leaders and workers are enduring inhumane conditions after being denied medical facilities.

Rizvi criticized the government, describing it as a 'blood-sucked fascist regime' that is indifferent to pro-democratic opposition parties. He highlighted concerns expressed by international human rights groups and democratic countries.

Referring to the 12th national election as the 'North Korea Model,' Rizvi alleged that Sheikh Hasina was her own opponent in the election. Some candidates were ‘dhummy’, some affiliated with the 'boat' (symbol of AL), and others were nominated by her.

Rizbi also claimed that the election results and voting rate were predetermined.
