The recent fires in the Shaplar Beel and Tepar Beel areas of the Sundarbans have been extinguished, but smoke continues to rise from the base of some trees.
On Wednesday morning, Forest Department and Fire Brigade personnel observed light flames and smoke in a few isolated spots within the burnt area.
These were promptly doused using fire hoses, and efforts are underway to soak the affected area to eliminate any remaining traces of fire, confirmed Chief Forest Officer Amir Hossain Chowdhury.
Authorities continue to monitor and search the area, with a final announcement on the fire’s extinguishment expected on Thursday. The Forest Department is also working to strengthen firefighting capabilities for future incidents.
An investigation committee will be formed on Thursday to determine the cause of the fire.
