Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan stated on Wednesday that Bangladesh is now fully independent and that its people will never feel oppressed in their own land again.
Speaking at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar on the occasion of Independence and National Day, he emphasized that the people's uprising on '24 safeguarded the independence gained in 1971.
He expressed confidence that this independence would remain intact, ensuring that no citizen would feel enslaved in a free country.
Reflecting on the significance of the Liberation War, he said that 1971 marked the birth of the nation, granting it independence. He credited the success of the '24 movement for preserving that independence, stating that it forced oppressive forces to flee, securing the country’s freedom once again through sacrifice.
Addressing the past 16 years, he remarked that while the country had been independent, the true essence of freedom had been eroded in recent years.
He stressed that independence is meaningless unless every citizen enjoys freedom of speech and expression. He reaffirmed that the sacrifices of students on '24 played a crucial role in restoring and completing that independence.
