Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain has cautioned that Indian media are disseminating false information about Bangladesh on a global scale.
He urged citizens to remain alert to such misinformation.
Speaking as the chief guest at a workshop and discussion session held at the Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF) office in Paltan Tower, Dhaka, on Monday (17 March), he emphasised the need for increased revenue generation to address the ongoing economic crisis.
"The country's tax-to-GDP ratio is in an embarrassingly poor state, and we must rectify this situation," he stated, adding that the interim government is fully committed to undertaking initiatives for national welfare.
Touhid Hossain also dismissed any possibility of delaying Bangladesh’s graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.
"We have been aware of this transition for a long time, yet businesses have done little to prepare. We are set to complete the LDC graduation by mid-2026, and there is no scope for deferment," he asserted.
Highlighting the significance of the cotton sector, he announced that policy support would be extended to facilitate its growth.
"Within the next two months, the government will introduce key decisions to improve the cotton industry. Cotton will be recognised as an agricultural product, and farmers will be provided with low-interest loans to support cultivation," he elaborated.
The event was presided over by ERF President Daulat Akter Mala and moderated by ERF General Secretary Abul Kashem.
Officials from the Cotton Development Board, the National Board of Revenue, and stakeholders from the cotton sector were also present.
