Dhaka metro rail services are operating smoothly without disruption, said Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTC) Managing Director Faruque Ahmed.

Speaking to the media at 10:45am on Monday (17 March), he stated that the workers’ strike had ended and normal operations had resumed.

Earlier in the day, metro rail employees initiated a work stoppage in protest against an incident in which four DMTC staff members were allegedly verbally and physically harassed by an MRT police officer.

The strike led to complications in metro rail operations, particularly affecting fare collection at certain stations.

In response to the situation, senior DMTC officials visited multiple stations to resolve the issue.

Faruque Ahmed later assured that the matter had been settled and normalcy restored.

“I inspected every station. There were challenges, but they have been addressed. Train services were not disrupted at any point—only some operational issues arose with the staff, which have now been resolved,” he stated.

Earlier, DMTC spokesperson Md Jahidul Islam said that metro rail operations remained unaffected despite the workers' protest, though revenue collection was disrupted at some locations.

Officials were actively engaging with staff at various stations to address their concerns.

Faruque Ahmed reiterated that he had assessed the situation across all stations and found no remaining issues.

He also confirmed that Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, the adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, is scheduled to visit a station at 3pm today.
