Housing and Public Works Minister RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury has urged Rajuk, UDD, and HBRI to address existing problems and enhance work dynamics.
He made this call during his speech as the chief guest at separate meetings with the three organizations at the Secretariat on Tuesday (19 March).
The Department of Urban Development (UDD) is working on formulating master plans for optimal land utilization and planned urbanization. During the meeting, UDD officials mentioned various issues, including a manpower crisis and the promotion of officers and employees in this institution established in 1965.
The minister directed the concerned officials of the ministry to promptly address the issues. Additionally, he instructed them to expedite any necessary actions to enhance the momentum of the department's work.
Housing and Building Research Institute (HBRI) Director General Md Ashraful Alam briefed the meeting on various government initiatives aimed at developing environmentally friendly construction materials and establishing related industries.
He said that more than 250 factories for making sand-cement blocks, which can be used as an alternative to terracotta bricks, have already been set up in different parts of the country.
The Minister instructed to raise awareness at all levels regarding the use of these construction materials, especially sand-cement blocks.
Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury stated that these environmentally friendly construction materials can play a crucial role in decarbonization, emphasizing the necessity of increasing their usage in the national interest.
He directed the concerned parties to resolve the institutional problems of HBRI as soon as possible.
On the same day, an exchange meeting was held with the officials and employees of Rajuk.
In the meeting, the minister directed Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) to ensure the incorporation of adequate afforestation, parks, playgrounds, children's parks, and reservoirs into their projects.
The minister emphasized the goal of building a people-friendly and smart ministry by accelerating the work of all departments under the ministry and completing projects in accordance with proper regulations as soon as possible.
