BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed confusion over the purpose of the roundtable meeting held with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The discussion, which took place at the InterContinental Dhaka, involved Guterres, representatives of political parties, the National Consensus Building Commission, and other stakeholders.
Following the session, Fakhrul stated, “I don’t understand why this roundtable meeting was held with the UN Secretary-General.”
He said, “The Law Adviser presented the key decisions made by the reform commission, and we reiterated the same points we have consistently made.”
Fakhrul said, “Reform is an internal matter. Reforms related to conducting an election must be implemented swiftly to conduct the national election promptly. Remaining reforms can be addressed by an elected national parliament. Reform is a continuous process.”
He also questioned the relevance of discussing election timeframes with the UN, remarking, “There is no need to provide a timeframe for the national election to the UN Secretary-General.
