Bangladesh, Japan discuss progress of key infrastructure projects

Bangladesh and Japan held discussions on Wednesday regarding the progress of projects under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Platform, focusing on the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Terminal-3 project and cooperation in the railway and road transport sectors.

A Bangladesh delegation, led by Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraz Uddin Miah, met with Japanese Vice Minister for Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Hirofumi Amakawa in Tokyo to review ongoing initiatives and explore further collaboration.

The delegation informed the Japanese side that preparations for cargo and ground handling at Terminal-3 are advancing rapidly to facilitate its opening as soon as possible. Principal Secretary M Siraz Uddin Miah assured full cooperation from the Bangladesh government to expedite the process.

Discussions also covered key infrastructure projects, including the Kamalapur Multi-Modal Transport Hub, MRT Line 6, and the Dhaka Outer Ring Road-2 and 3. Additionally, Bangladesh sought Japan's support in attracting investment in the country’s tourism sector.

The meeting was attended by Japan’s Assistant Vice Minister for Engineering and Housing Affairs Yosuke Tsutsumi and senior officials from the ministry.

Also present were Senior Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division Md. Ehsanul Hoque, Railways Secretary Md Fahimul Islam, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Nasreen Jahan, Chief Executive Officer of the Public Private Partnership Authority Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Japan Md Daud Ali, and Director General of the Chief Adviser’s Office Dr Ahmed Ullah.
