The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday (6 March) acquitted BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, and his close associate, Gias Uddin Al Mamun, in a money laundering case, overturning the High Court’s verdict that had sentenced them to seven years in prison.

The apex court also annulled the High Court ruling in the case.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, presided over by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, delivered the judgment following an appeal lodged by Gias Uddin challenging the High Court’s decision.
