Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared his willingness to collaborate under US President Donald Trump’s "strong leadership" to achieve enduring peace, days after an unprecedented verbal altercation at the White House.
In the wake of the confrontation, the United States announced the suspension of all military aid to Kyiv, triggering widespread global debate and criticism.
Addressing the situation in a detailed post on social media platform X on Tuesday, Zelensky described the exchange as "regrettable" and sought to clarify his stance.
"The time has come to rectify the situation," he asserted, referring to Trump’s accusations that Ukraine had not demonstrated sufficient preparedness for negotiations.
Zelensky outlined key preliminary steps to end the war, including the release of prisoners of war, an aerial ceasefire prohibiting missile and long-range drone strikes, and an immediate halt to hostilities at sea—contingent upon reciprocal actions from Russia.
"We are prepared to bring the war to a swift end," Zelensky wrote, emphasising that Ukraine aims to swiftly conclude subsequent steps and work alongside the United States to secure a robust final agreement.
Reflecting on the tense White House meeting, Zelensky acknowledged that the discussions had not transpired as intended.
"It is unfortunate that events unfolded this way. Now is the time to correct the course. We seek more constructive cooperation and communication in the future," he stated.
Zelensky also reiterated Ukraine’s readiness to sign agreements with the United States on mineral resource partnerships, highlighting potential economic collaborations between the two nations.
