Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized arms, ammunition, drugs, and other contraband worth Tk 170.18 crore in nationwide anti-smuggling operations, particularly in border areas, throughout February.
During the operations, BGB confiscated 2.529 kg of gold, 85.400 kg of silver, and a significant number of smuggled goods, including 3,39,990 cosmetic items, 7,116 imitation jewelry pieces, 8,784 sarees, 6,811 three-piece sets, bed sheets, and blankets, as well as 12,202 meters of unstitched fabric.
The haul also included 7,204 readymade garments, 16,86,739 firecrackers, 6,782 cubic feet of timber, 2,434 kg of tea leaves, 48,839 kg of betel nuts, 2,69,824 kg of sugar, 4,093 kg of fertilizer, 32 liters of diesel, 23,820 kg of coal, and 1,310 cubic feet of stones.
Other seized items comprised 115 kg of current nets, 3,852 mobile displays, 559 mobile phone sets, 30,620 glasses, 67,135 kg of fruits, 670 kg of edible oil, 4,336 kg of onions, 2,483 kg of garlic, 13,406 kg of cumin, 2,835 kg of raisins, and 1,91,591 pieces of chocolate.
Additionally, BGB seized nine trucks, 11 pickups, two private cars/microbuses, one covered van, one tractor, 46 boats, 27 CNG/easybikes, 44 motorcycles, and 31 bicycles.
The seized weapons included two pistols, two guns, two magazines, one mortar shell, five rounds of ammunition, and 69 hand bombs.
In the fight against narcotics, BGB confiscated 11,59,748 Yaba tablets, 5.878 kg of heroin, 2.297 grams of cocaine, 23,044 bottles of Phensidyl, 14,935 bottles of foreign liquor, 160 liters of locally made liquor, 713 cans of beer, 2,693 kg of cannabis, 3,40,242 packets of cigarettes, 40,914 narcotic tablets and injections, 3,787 bottles of Iscaf syrup, 208 bottles of Mkdil/Cofidil, 6,97,872 various medicines, and 59,969 Enegra/Senegra tablets.
Legal action has been taken against 134 suspected smugglers, while 281 Bangladeshi nationals and 13 Indian citizens have been detained for illegal border crossings. Additionally, 931 Myanmar nationals were repatriated after their detention, according to a BGB media release signed by Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam on Wednesday.
