The country may experience temperatures rising to 40°C this month, accompanied by one or two mild heatwaves, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The long-term forecast committee of the department disclosed this projection following a meeting on Sunday (2 March).

According to the forecast for March, rainfall is expected to be below average, while there is no likelihood of cyclones or depressions forming in the Bay of Bengal.

Towards the end of the month, one to two mild (36-38°C) or moderate (38-40°C) heatwaves may affect the western and southwestern regions.

The forecast further indicates a gradual increase in both daytime and nighttime temperatures throughout the month, with temperatures likely to remain above normal.

Additionally, there is a possibility of two to three instances of light to moderate thunderstorms and hailstorms, along with one severe nor’wester.

Despite the rising temperatures, major rivers across the country are expected to maintain normal water flow.
