Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today warned that the government would not spare anybody to be found responsible for price hike of essentials.

“Those who are involved with increasing the prices of food items unfairly would not be spared,” she said.

The adviser said this while inaugurating selling of milk, eggs and meat at fair price on the occasion of holy Ramadan at Siraj Mia Memorial Model School premises at Merul Badda area here this morning.

She urged the students of the July mass uprising to raise their voice against the unscrupulous activities of a vested quarter to raise the price of essentials.

Noting that this Ramadan would be ‘different’, Farida Akhter said, “We will observe the holy fasting afresh in a free environment. So, we have to play utmost responsibility for welfare of the people.”

Reform something is not the only duty of the Interim Government, she said adding reducing the containing the high price of essentials is also an important task of the government to help people to breathe a sigh of relief.”

Farida Akhter said the government has taken steps to sell some very essential products at cost-effective price to people during Ramadan.
Under this initiative, the adviser said the animal food products will be sold in fair price at 25 spots in the Dhaka city from the first day of Ramadan and it will continue till Ramadan 28.

The spots are- Abdul Gani Road, Farmgate, 60-feet Road (Mirpur), Azimpur Matrisadan, Nayabazar (Old Dhaka), Banasree, Hajaribagh, Arambagh, Mohammadpur (Babar Road), Kalshi (Mirpur), Jatrabari (Maniknagar Galir Mukh), Shahajadpur (Badda), Karail basti-Banani, Kamrangir Char, Khilgaon (South side of Railway crossing), Nakhalpara (Lucas More), Segunbagicha kitchen market, Basila (Mohammadpur), Uttara (House Building), Rampura Bazar, Mirpur-10, Kalyanpur (Jhilpar) , Tejgaon, Bangabazar and Kakrail.

The adviser said per kg dressed broiler chicken to be sold at Taka 250, milk pasteurized per liter at Taka 80, Eggs (per dozen) at Taka 114 and beef per kg at Taka 650.
The Department of Livestock Services (DLS) and Dairy development project (LDDP), Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC), Bangladesh Daily and Fattening Farmers Association (BDFFA), Milk processing organizations, other participants’ and small farmers are providing support to the fair price programme.

Director General (DG) of the DLS Dr M Abu Sufian presided over the function while Fisheries and Livestock Secretary M Tofazzal Hossen, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz, Bangladesh Milk Producers Co-operative Union Limited (Milk Vita) Chairman Commander Zahirul Alim, LDDP project director M Jashim Uddin, BDFFA President Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, BPICC President Shamsul Arefin Khaled and representatives of Anti-Discrimination student platform were present.
