Police have heightened security across Dhaka, ramping up patrols and establishing additional checkposts as law and order continue to deteriorate amid the nationwide joint forces' crackdown, dubbed "Operation Devil Hunt".

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has intensified its operations by setting up 54 checkposts across 50 police station jurisdictions while deploying 500 patrol teams in the past 24 hours, the department reported on Tuesday (25 February).

According to the DMP Media and Public Relations Department, security forces arrested 248 individuals on various criminal charges during raids conducted in different parts of the capital.

A DMP statement detailing Monday’s operations affirmed that police activity has been bolstered across the Dhaka metropolitan area to maintain public safety and stability.

As part of this initiative, coordinated checkposts and patrols have been reinforced in collaboration with the DMP and other law enforcement agencies.

In addition to the DMP's efforts, seven Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) teams, four Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) teams, and 10 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) patrol units have been deployed to crime-prone areas to enhance security.

Furthermore, the Armed Police Battalion (APBn), a specialised wing of the police, has established 31 additional checkposts across the city.

Of the 248 individuals apprehended, police records indicate that 14 are suspected robbers, 16 muggers, seven extortionists, 11 thieves, 22 drug dealers, and 44 individuals with outstanding warrants, while the remainder face various criminal charges.
