A devastating fire broke out at Sajek, a popular tourist destination in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila, on Monday, reducing at least 15 resorts and cottages to ashes.

The blaze started around 1 pm at Obokash Resort and quickly spread to nearby establishments, engulfing Echo Valley Resort, Meghchut Resort, Montana Restaurant, Maruati Restaurant, and several others, according to eyewitnesses.

Upon receiving information, Army personnel from Baghaihat Zone and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members from the 27th and 54th battalions rushed to the scene, working alongside locals to control the flames. However, the fire was still raging as of 4 pm, and the exact cause remains unknown.

Indrajit Chakma, owner of Hill View Resort, stated that 15 to 16 resorts and cottages suffered damage and that it took two hours for Fire Service teams to arrive from Dighinala in Khagrachhari district.

Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shirin Akter confirmed that Army and BGB personnel were actively working to douse the fire.
