Airbase in Cox’s Bazar under attack by unidentified miscreants, 1 killed

An attack on Bangladesh Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar has left one person dead and several others injured, prompting heightened security and an official investigation

Bangladesh Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar came under an unexpected attack from miscreants in the adjacent Samiti Para area on Monday (24 February), according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

"In response, the Bangladesh Air Force is taking necessary measures to address the situation," stated a press release signed by Ayesha Siddiqua, assistant director of ISPR.

Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Salahuddin confirmed that one individual was killed and several others sustained injuries during the incident.

"The cause of the clash will be investigated through discussions with both parties, and necessary measures will be taken," he added.

According to Saiful Islam, in charge of the police box at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, the incident occurred around midday.

"Shihab Kabir, 30, a local trader and son of Nasir Uddin from Samiti Para of Ward 1, was shot during the clash," he said.

Meanwhile, security forces have restricted access to the site, with eyewitnesses reporting a heavy presence of law enforcement personnel.
